Joint Commission EC chapter findings: 4 → 0 in one survey cycle

A 180-bed regional community hospital migrated off paper PM logs to Maintoro and produced their first Joint Commission survey in 12 years with zero EC-chapter findings.

The challenge

Paper PM logs in three-ring binders kept getting cited at Joint Commission surveys. Biomed equipment scattered across departments without central tracking; calibration cycles drifting from manufacturer specifications; nursing staff bypassing the work-request process because follow-up was unreliable.

What they implemented

A six-week deployment focused on biomed and life-safety priorities first:

  • Asset register import: 12,400 biomedical units tagged by location, model, manufacturer cadence
  • Joint Commission EC.02 PM template library aligned to TJC chapter requirements
  • Mobile work-request portal accessible to all clinical staff via QR-scan
  • Calibration workflow with deviation handling and retrospective batch-impact analysis

How results were measured

PM compliance percentage tracked weekly across all biomed asset categories. Joint Commission survey results compared year-over-year on EC.02.03 (utility systems), EC.02.04 (medical equipment), and EC.02.05 (life-safety) chapters. Nursing satisfaction with maintenance follow-through measured via quarterly survey.

“We migrated off paper PM logs in six weeks. Our Joint Commission survey three months later was the first in 12 years where the EC chapter had zero findings. The biomed team went from drowning in paper to having time to actually train new technicians.”
